On June 25 this year, only six months after taking office as minister, Qin Gang met with the foreign ministers of Sri Lanka and Vietnam and the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko respectively in Beijing.
According to several people with contact with senior Chinese officials, Rudenko’s real mission in Beijing was to inform Xi Jinping that several senior PLA officers, including Qin Gang and Li Shangfu, were informants for Western intelligence agencies.
Fu Xiaotian studied at Cambridge University, a traditional recruiting ground for British intelligence agencies.
According to several people with contact with senior officials, the real reason for Qin Gang’s sudden disappearance was his involvement in a more serious scandal involving Defense Minister Li Shangfu and Li Yuchao, commander of China’s “Rocket Army”, which is responsible for China’s Nuclear weapons program.
Almost at the same time that Qin Gang disappeared, the Rocket Force’s top commander Li Yuchao, his deputy Liu Guangbin, and his former deputy Zhang Zhenzhong also disappeared.
Several other current and former senior officers of the force were also detained, and at least one former deputy commander died of an unknown illness, state media reported.
This should refer to Wu Guohua, deputy commander of the Rocket Force.
According to people familiar with senior Chinese officials, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Rudenko’s message to Xi Jinping included accusations that Qin Gang and relatives of senior Rocket Force officers helped pass China’s nuclear secrets to Western intelligence agencies.
Two of them claimed that Qin Gang died in late July at the Beijing military hospital where China’s top leader was treated.
It’s the 301 hospital.
However, Fu Xiaotian flew back to Beijing on Xi Yuanping’s private plane on April 10, 2023.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Rudenko only went to Beijing on June 25, so the timeline is a bit time-traveled.
